Jigglypuff (Purin in Japanese version) is a character from the Pokémon franchise. It is a dual Normal/Fairy-type Pokémon that appears in both anime and video game series. Introduced in Generation I, Jigglypuff was a pure Normal-type Pokémon prior to Generation VI, when the Fairy type was introduced. It is also a playable character in the Super Smash Bros series.
Jigglypuff, as with its pre-evolution Igglybuff and its evolved form Wigglytuff, have a gender ratio of 1 male to 3 female. Its ratio is 25% male to 75% female, making it less likely to encounter males and more likely to encounter females in the wild.
It is voiced by Mika Kanai in all appearances in the Japanese original version, and in the English version by Rachael Lillis in the anime and the entire Super Smash Bros. series until Alola, Kanto!, where the latter passed the role to Michele Knotz, who also voiced May.
Jigglypuff is also Clefairy's counterpart.
Video Games
Super Smash Bros. series
Jigglypuff makes people go to sleep while singing and can also fly in the air. She also appeared in the Super Smash Bros. series as an unlockable character in all five games (excluding the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros. 4, where she became a starter fighter instead). Jigglypuff was first created as a character for Smash at the height of the anime's popularity and so just as the Pikachu in it has been collectively presumed to be Ash's Pikachu too is in Smash Bros. as well. Jigglypuff is also presumed to be the same feared recurring Jigglypuff from the anime, though there has never been an official confirmation of this other than Pikachu's connection only being to the handheld game.
Super Smash Bros.
Jigglypuff is one of the four unlockable fighters, who is unlocked after clearing the 1P game using any character on any difficulty.
Jigglypuff's alternate costumes are various bows depending on which player takes control and also used for team battles. Two of them, the blue and green bows, are based off of two possible colors for a nicknamed Jigglypuff in the Pokémon Stadium games.
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Jigglypuff returns as an unlockable fighter. As with Smash 64, she can be unlocked by clearing either Classic or Adventure mode using any character on any difficulty, or play 50 matches in VS. mode. She is considered to be the first hidden character unlocked. After completing any of these methods, Jigglypuff is then fought on Pokémon Stadium.
Her blue bow costume is kept from the previous game, while her red and green bows were replaced with a red hibiscus flower and a green headband, respectively. They both also resemble two possible colors for a nicknamed Jigglypuff in the Pokémon Stadium games. She also has a brand new yellow alternate costume, which gives her Princess Peach's crown.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Jigglypuff returns in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as an unlockable fighter. She also gains a Final Smash that pushes opponents away, known as Puff Up. She is one of the last characters to be unlocked and can be unlocked by completing 20 events or more after completing Subspace Emissary or playing 350 Brawl matches. Jigglypuff will then challenge the player on Pokémon Stadium 2. She'll then be yours to use after defeating her in battle.
Jigglypuff retains her red hibiscus flower from Melee. Her blue bow was replaced with a straw hat based on the Bug Catcher and Lady trainer classes and also gives Jigglypuff her shiny coloration. Her green headband was replaced by the hat that Kirby wears when copying the Sleep ability in early Kirby games up until Kirby: Squeak Squad, which is related to two of her moves, those being Sing and Rest. Finally, Jigglypuff wears Leaf's hat from Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, which replaces Peach's crown from Melee altogether.
Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
Jigglypuff returns in both versions of Smash 4. In the 3DS version, she is an unlockable fighter once again by collecting 30 different equipment items or playing 120 matches as the last character unlocked through playing Smash. In the Wii U version, for the first time in the series, she is initially unlocked from the start along with all of the other original 12 fighters from Smash 64.
All four of her alternate costumes from Brawl return, in addition to obtaining three new costumes for a total of eight alternate costumes as with all other fighters. The hibiscus flower is now in front of her ear rather than behind from Melee and Brawl. Jigglypuff's first new costume gives her a reddish-pink bow/ribbon on her head, which marks the return of her Red team costume from Smash 64 and also resembles her Blue alt from Melee. The second gives Jigglypuff the Pokémon Center Nurse's hat from Pokémon X and Y and Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Her third and final costume gives her Serena's default Red Felt Hat and Wide Frame Glasses, also from X and Y.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Jigglypuff returns in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as one of the many unlockable fighters. She was absent in the World of Light opening cutscene, though she was vaporized and imprisoned by Galeem. In World of Light, she can be found by taking Sheik's route in the Light Realm by crossing a bridge or circling through a lake. She then will join the player's party after being awakened. In Classic Mode, Jigglypuff can be unlocked on Kirby's unlock tree as the second character unlocked after Ness and before Pac-Man. In Smash, it takes exactly 2 hours and 20 minutes to unlock her, being the 15th character unlocked after Ike and before King K. Rool.
All of Jigglypuff's alternate costumes return and remain unchanged from Smash 4.
Anime
Jigglypuff is one particular member of its species that make several recurring appearances. This particular Jigglypuff found a small marker dropped by the humans that it mistakes for a microphone and uses to express itself and sing its heart out. Due to Jigglypuff's voices acting as sleeping inducing singles once they begin singing, the people Jigglypuff sings to always wind up falling asleep, Ash, Misty, Brock, and Pikachu all included as well as the series villains, Team Rocket. Infuriated that people fall asleep while it is singing its heart out, Jigglypuff would get even with its perceived critics by removing the cap from the marker and use it to draw all over the faces of those it considered rude enough to ignore its performance.
Throughout the anime Jigglypuff tries again and again to become a recognized performer only to have those around it fall asleep during its performances, affecting anyone from a crowd of people to a whole city. Jigglypuff became something of a feared creature as Ash and Team Rocket both gained a healthy fear for the thing whenever it showed up. Jigglypuff has inadvertently saved the day numerous times, putting thugs to sleep, wild Pokémon and even armies primed for attack, or just singing a few notes (too short and brief to send anyone to sleep; though ironically, it does break hypnosis). Though its songs also made the protagonists sleep the time spent coming-to always gave the heroes chances to regroup and overcome their foes.

Jigglypuff is a balloon Pokémon; for type, it is a Normal/Fairy type. It evolves from Igglybuff when it has a strong friendship with a Trainer, then into Wigglytuff when in contact with a Moon Stone.
