Jason Peter Todd, also known as the Arkham Knight and later as the Red Hood, is the titular secondary antagonist of Batman: Arkham Knight and the titular main protagonist of its DLC Red Hood.
He's the second Robin and was previously Batman's partner. After being kidnapped and tortured by The Joker, he was turned into becoming the Arkham Knight and lead a military takeover of Gotham City in hopes of punishing Batman for not avenging/saving him.
He eventually redeemed himself and decided to replace Batman as the sole protector of Gotham City under the guise of the Red Hood and serves as the titular anti-heroic protagonist of the game's sequel DLC episode Red Hood, as well as a flashback character in Batman: Arkham VR.
He is voiced by Troy Baker, who voices Erron Black in Mortal Kombat X and Mortal Kombat 11, also voiced Batman in The Telltale Series and The Enemy Within, Delsin Rowe in Infamous: Second Son, Joel Miller in The Last of Us and The Last of Us Part II, Sam Drake in Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Booker DeWitt in BioShock Infinite, Snow Villers of the Final Fantasy series, Talion in the Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor series, Joseph Allen in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, and Jack Mitchell in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Jason Peter Todd was born in Gotham to drug addicts Willis and Cathy Todd, and his father tried to sell his child since he was debt to Carmine Falcone. In his youth, Jason was abused by his father, who considered him worthless and would often release his stress onto his son. Willis and Cathy would later be executed by Sal Maroni, leaving Jason an orphan.
Becoming Robin[]
Jason encountered Batman when he was fighting the Joker, and saved the former's life by pushing him out of the way of the latter's attack. Batman eventually took Jason in as his ward, and started to train him to become his second Robin, replacing the original, Dick Grayson. During his tenure as Robin, Jason enjoyed working with the Dark Knight, but also suffered from being impulsive, reckless, and short tempered. When the Joker blew up a school that was filled with children, Jason decided that it was time to kill the Joker for good, even if Batman refused to do so. Jason tracked down the Joker to the Arkham Asylum, but was trapped and tortured by the supervillain.
Kept in an abandoned wing of the asylum, Jason waited for Batman to come and save him, but started to lose faith that his mentor would rescue him after a year passed. Eventually, Jason broke down and started to believe that Batman wasn't coming, and suffered a breakdown when he learned that Batman had a new Robin, Tim Drake. When Jason was asked by the Joker to tell him of Batman's identity, he was shot and the footage was sent to Batman. Jason would recover, but was then tortured by Harley Quinn, who called him "Arkham's Knight in Shining Armor" if he ever got the chance to kill Batman.
Becoming Arkham Knight[]
When the Joker caused a prison break at the asylum, Jason broke free and persuaded Deathstroke to help him escape from the island. Jason then paid Deathstroke by breaking into Wayne Tower and stealing from Bruce's finance, and also encountered Tim Drake before escaping. Wanting to get revenge on Batman for leaving him to be tortured by the Joker, Jason continued to stalk his former mentor, and plan and train to get to his physical peak. In Venezuela, Jason created a militia and took on the title of the "Arkham Knight", and also made an alliance with Hush. The Arkham Knight also forced some supervillains to work with him, such as Harley Quinn, Bane and Firefly, and also decided to work with Scarecrow to end Batman.
Personality and Traits[]
After outgrowing his anger over his former mentor, Jason began to assist his mentor by saving Batman from his bonds in order for the Dark Knight to take down Scarecrow. After Batman activated the Knightfall Protocol, Jason took up a reformed mantle of the Red-Hood and began continuing the work his former mentor and father figure dedicated his life to.
Unlike the Batman, the criminals and super-criminals of Gotham are much more terrified of the Red Hood than Batman himself. Not only does the Red Hood have the same physical prowess and abilities as the Batman, but because the Red Hood murders criminals and super-criminals who he deems to be dangerous to be handed over tot he authorities or left alive. As the Red Hood, he also actively hunts down criminals and super-criminals rather than just waiting for them to commit a crime.
Powers and Abilities[]
Jason has trained his body's physical functions to the peak of human potential. Due to his rigorous training with Batman and further training after his "death", Jason is capable of practically superhuman feats of athleticism such as: strength, speed, stamina, agility, reflexes, durability, endurance, mental faculties and healing time. Effectively equal with Batman's physical abilities, he also has the advantage of being younger. He is a master of countless forms of martial arts, an even deadlier marksman than Batman, plus a highly skilled expert in guerrilla warfare, tactics / strategics. criminology, sciences, polymaths, swordsmanship, stealth tactics & intimidation.
