Sailor Saturn is one of the central characters from Sailor Moon series. She is one of the Outer Sailor Guardians. She is the Sailor Scout of Destruction. Her human name is Hotaru Tomoe. She was possessed by Mistress 9 in Sailor Moon S and the third season of Sailor Moon Crystal.
She is voiced by Yūko Minaguchi in the Japanese version of the anime and by Yukiyo Fujii in Crystal, and by Jen Gould (CWI) and Christine Marie Cabanos (VIZ) in the English version of the anime.
In the Nickelodeon dub of the Sailor Moon Crystal series, she will be voiced by Liliana Mumy.
Appearance[]
Hotaru Tomoe[]
Hotaru mainly appears to have a black shoulder-length bob with purple shine on front, short black hair and purple eyes. In her initial appearance, she was usually seen in her casual attire or sometimes wore a winter jacket, while in Mistress 9's control.
Like both Haruka and Michiru, who disguised themselves as students in Mugen Academy, Hotaru wears the standard Mugen Academy winter school uniform, as she wears blue stockings and black flats.
Sailor Saturn[]
Sailor Saturn wears a dark blue-violet uniform with a pale maroon bow in the front of her chest with a silver crystalline brooch and in the back of her miniskirt. The initial version of this uniform has petal-shaped sleeves, a windrose brooch and choker with the same kind of windrose, bellflower-shaped white gloves, and knee-high, lace up boots.
Super Sailor Saturn[]
Her appearance is like the rest of the Super Sailor Senshi and her dominant color is now indigo after being reborn, her uniform has a single white line on each side and her dark brown/black bow at the back was lengthened and the gem at the center of her bow is replaced with a purple heart-shaped brooch and her choker has a gold star shape at the center of her choker.
Princess Saturn[]
She wears a dark purple gown with gloves purple gloves. Her dress has two straps with diamond shaped golden jewelry on each. She wears a purple choker and a golden pendant. She also wore purple high heels with straps.
Personality[]
Sailor Saturn and Hotaru share a different personality. As Hotaru Tomoe, she known as a shy, kind-hearted and lonely girl and at the some point paranoid. Never having had any real friends, she was surprised yet happy to have met and befriended Chibiusa. She had growing fears of losing herself someday and struggled to keep her dark side in check, so as not to harm those she held most dear.
While she became Sailor Saturn, her personality drastically changed. She became stoic, serious, less empathetic, little-bit sarcastic, and also had a fondness for the chaos of destruction.
However, due to her status as a sailor guardian, she is willing to do anything to save the world from evil-being with her powerful power and ready to sacrifice herself.
Biography[]
When the Silver Millennium was destroyed by the Dark Kingdom and the death of Princess Serenity, the Outer Senshi's talismans were activated and awakened Sailor Saturn. Using the Silence Glaive, she destroyed the star system, including herself, and all was reborn. Sailor Saturn was reborn as Hotaru Tomoe.
When she was reborn as Hotaru, she was raised by Souichi and Keiko Tomoe. However, when she was eight years old, an accident occured in her father's lab, killing her mother, Keiko, and injuring her badly. To save her life, her father, Souichi, replaced part of her limbs with cybernetic prosthetics, and he also connected with Pharaoh 90, who had her possessed with a Daimon who would become Pharaoh 90's partner, Mistress 9, in the future.
Trivia[]
- According to the manga of Hunter X Hunter, Yoshihiro Togashi, Kalluto's design was inspired by Hotaru Tomoe.
- Additionally, Yoshihiro Togashi and Naoko Takeuchi are married in 1999.
- In the manga and Crystal, after Hotaru was reborn once again, she was taken by the other Outer Scouts to raised her. But in 90s anime version, she was taken by her father temporarily (As Souichi was not killed in this version) before later, she was taken by Sailor Pluto as Setsuna Meiou and raised by the other Outer Guardians.
- Prior to VIZ Media re-releasing the Sailor Moon series with a new English Dub which would restore all of the Sailor Scouts' English names to their original Japanese variant, Hotaru was the only Sailor Scout whose name was not changed to an English name in the previous English release when Sailor Moon S was released by Cloverway.
- However, the only exception in the Cloverway English Dub was her surname. It was pronounced as To-moh instead of To-MOH-eh.
- Prior to the movie release of Sailor Moon Eternal, Sailor Saturn never appeared in any Sailor Moon movies, as she was the only Sailor Soldier to never appear in any of the movies from the original anime.
- Through all of Sailor Saturn's heroic efforts, she was the most powerful living creature in Sailor Moon history before purposely turning herself into a baby.
