Montmerecy Hooligan is a character who made his first appearance in the Happy Hooligan comic strip and has also appeared in the silent animated cartoons based on that strip.
Character Description[]
Wearing a battered top hat and threadbare tails, Montmerecy Hooligan is the brother of Happy Hooligan, the title character of the comic strip. Effecting a British accent and demeanour, he personified the egotism and snobbishness of the early 1900s, and was obsessed with improving his social standing. He even took his two brothers to England and sneaked them into the House of Lords. They were caught when Happy fell from the top floor onto one of the Lords and were quickly placed in the Tower of London.
Personality[]
Montmerecy is a social climber obsessed with elevating his social standing by getting rich quick. He is something of an embarrassment to his brothers, Happy and Gloomy Gus, whom he always involves in his schemes and always ends up getting in trouble, imprisoned or worse.
