Mikaela "Mika" Hyakuya is one of the main protagonists (alongside Yuichiro Hyakuya) of the dystopian dark fantasy anime, manga, and light series, Seraph of the End. He is the best childhood friend of Yuichiro Hyakuya. He first met him at the Hyakuya Orphanage and was eventually captured by some vampires after a near genocide started on the planet. Alongside the rest of the children of the orphanage, they attempt to flee the place but are stopped by the Third Progenitor of the vampires, Ferid Bathory, who later murders all of the children, with only Yu and Mika left. Yu manages to escape and Mika remains by the vampire's side and is transformed into a vampire by the Second Progenitor, Krul Tepes. Several years later, he encounters his best friend who is still alive and now swears to reunite with him.
He is voiced by Kenshō Ono, by Haruka Chisuga (young) in Japanese, by Justin Briner in English.
Appearance[]
Mika is a blond boy with messy chin-length hair and blue irises. As he became a vampire (a half actually), he did not immediately gain all the typical vampire traits aside from the fangs, but not the red-coloured eyes. Now working as a city guard of the vampire city, he wears the white uniform, comprising of a long cape with an armband on the upper part of his left arm, and designs features in the middle to keep his cape connected. His uniform underneath has a black collar and is a white Sam Brown with two columns of golden buttons, and two belt that crosses each other, forming an X-shaped design on his waist. His city guard uniform is completed with a pair of gloves on his hand and a pair of long black boots.
Having finally been turned into a full vampire now, it resulted his eyes in turning red and a sharp pupil.
Personality[]
Mika often remains stern during his time as a vampire, still being impacted by the loss of many of his friends at the orphanage who were sadistically slaughtered by Ferid. He often gets the impact of trauma and PTSD in his head about his past. Mika's deep-seated selflessness served as the driving force behind his actions.
In the past, he was fueled by his concern for his best friend and both of them shared the same goal to leave the vampire facility they found themselves in. Their mutual discontent with their surroundings further fueled their determination. He emphasized the importance of their familial bond, a reminder that resonated deeply with Yu. In a selfless act, Mika decided to confront Ferid, armed with a gun, as a sacrifice for Yu to flee the place.
Mika found solace and happiness in Yu's recognition of their familial connection, now aware that his sacrifice was the one that saved him.
In the present, Mika does not trust either to humans or vampires, bearing the only objective to reunite and be with Yu. He does not hesitate to slaughter some of his vampire comrades as he searches for Yu in the city. He tried to convince Yu to join him and that the humans alongside him are trying to manipulate him, knowing that human organizations are known to be experimenting among themselves.
Abilities[]
As a vampire that was turned by a progenitor, Krul, Mika is undoubtedly more powerful than a regular vampire, even though he is a half-bloodsucker.
