Marcus Holloway, also known as Retr0 is one of the main protagonists of the Watch Dogs franchise, debuting as the main protagonist of the 2016 video game Watch Dogs 2, then returning as a supporting character of the Watch Dogs: Legion DLC expansion Bloodline.
After being accused of a crime he didn't commit by ctOS, Holloway becomes a grey hat hacker and joins DedSec to take down Blume Corporation. Though the protagonist, he can be considered as a villain when he commit crimes (such as murder, robbing or carjacking) when free-roaming in San Francisco.
He was voiced by Ruffin Prentiss.
Biography[]
Background[]
Marcus Holloway was born in 1992 in Los Angeles, California to unnamed parents, but his family would move to Oakland at some point when he was young. Marcus would gain an interest in computers when he was placed into a community program, giving him the knowledge of computers and data. When he was young, he was a huge fan of the actor Jimmy Siska, but became disappointed when the star joined the Church of New Dawn. Around 2012, San Francisco enacted the Home Domain Center (HDC), a program to to lower crime rates. In 2013, Marcus was falsely accused of being the primse suspect of a high tech robbery by the HDC; as the only evidence against him was the HDC's predictive software, Marcus recieved a light sentence in the form of community service.
Disillusioned by the system since he was left discriminated by others, Marcus would become a grey hat hacker under the name "Retr0", and exposed HDC's system to the public. As CTos 2.0 was activated in San Francisco, Holloway became determined to shut it down, as he knew the system was going to invade the privacy of California's citizens. Wanting to join DeadSec, a group fighting against Blume and CTos, Holloway would search for any weaknesses in CTOs while awaiting to be recruited.
Watch Dogs 2[]
DedSec started to knowledge "Retr0" and gave him the challenge to erase his profile made by ctOS, which he manages to do so by infiltrating Blume's security. Before leaving the building, Holloway leaves a backdoor that will give him passage, and is kidnapped by DedSec when they help him escape. Passing the challenge, Marcus meets Sitara Dhawan, Reginald "Wrench" Blechman and Josh Sauchak, and the group party at the beach where Holloway reveals that he gave himself backdoor access. During the night, Marcus becomes intoxicated and runs into Dušan Nemec, the head of Blume who knows of Marcus' intrusion into CTos. After the party, Holloway heads to DedSec's headquarters and agrees to help them take down Blume by doing various things to get followers.
While helping his allies in exposing organizations such as the Church of the New Dawn and Haum Electronics, Josh learns that half of the followers were bots and dead accounts. Wanting to find the source, Holloway heads to !nvite's headquarters where he encounters Nemec, who reveals that he created the followers so that he could expand ctOS 2.0 since citizens would be afraid of DedSec's actions. He then explains that he reuploaded Holloway's profile to the system, and has put a warrant for his arrest, forcing Marcus to evade the police. Meeting up with the group, Marcus decides to build up their morale by participating in a challenge at the Swelter Skelter. Upon winning, the crew are greeted by Raymond "T-Bone" Kenney, whom joins their ranks to take down Blume.
Watch Dogs: Legion[]
As Wrench is in London, Marcus has been working with Jimmy Siska on his new movie, and leaves voicemail to his best friend which can be heard in the DLC Bloodline. At some point, Holloway will get in touch with Wrench to finish the production of Siska's film.

- Demonic Powers: Through the outfit granted to Marcus by the Shuffler Entity, Marcus exhibits some demonic powers. These powers include;
- Psychokinetic Force: He displayed the power to generate powerful telekinetic force which shatter his victim's bodily structures and compressing them.
Abilities[]
- Expert Hacker: As a grey hat hacker, Marcus is skilled in hacking computers by using the profiler, a tool that allows him to manipulate technology and devices within his proximity. He is able to hack into people's phones to siphon their income and obtain botnets, control cars, or rig into the city's installations.
- Athleticism: Like Aiden Pearce, Holloway is skilled in parkour.
- Craftsmanship: Marcus is a skilled craftsman, and is able to create shock and explosives devices, or RC jumpers and quadcopters when they are destroyed.
- Marksmanship: Holloway is a master marksman, and can either utilize lethal or non-lethal means to deal with threats.
- Weapon Proficiency: He is also skilled with various weapons, such as shotguns, assault riffles, and sniper rifles.
- Vehicle Intuition: Holloway is capable of driving any type of vehicle he comes across, from cars, bikes, and boats.
- Stealth Expertise: Marcus is a master of stealth, capable of infiltrating areas without being detected by security. His skills with hacking and use of gadgets allows him to hack and manipulate cameras, robots and vehicles to get through areas.
- Expert Martial Artist: He is skilled in close-quarter combat, utilizing the thunder ball to take down his targets up close.
Equipment[]
- Profiler: Holloway's most pivotal and best gadget, the profiler allows him to manipulate and hack devices within his proximity.
- RC Jumper: A 3D printed RC car that allows Holloway to infiltrate areas, such as entering small areas such as vents or air ducts. It also allows him to hack into terminals, routers, and junction boxes when he can't get to them himself. He can also distract or taunt his enemies to get there attention.
- Quadcopter: A 3D printed drone that allows him to tag opponents, and see or get to places that the RC jumper can't.
- Electro Shock Device: A non-lethal gadget that knocks out a target unconscious.
- Explosive Device: A device that explodes and kills anyone in the vicinity.
Heroic Actions[]
- In the operation mission Shadow, he helps Aiden Pearce who is being held in the prison by the Bravtas to escape the prison and the cell.
- Helping other citizen by hacks bank to give the money, or help them with things that get wrong in their life.
Villainous Actions[]
Despite being a hero, there are still a few villainous acts that he can commit during free roam. However, he never commits any of his villain acts during the storyline.
- Carjacking vehicles.
- Killing citizens.
- Robbing stores.
- Hacking banks account and stealing people.
