Listen kid, there's two things you don't know about the Earth. One is me, and the other... is Godzilla.
~ Captain Douglas Gordon on Godzilla.

Godzilla (ゴジラ, Gojira) is the titular main protagonist of the 2004 50th anniversary Godzilla film, Godzilla: Final Wars. An irradiated prehistoric amphibious reptile kaiju, Godzilla was awakened by nuclear testing in 1954, and declared war on humanity as revenge.

After being sealed in an iceberg on Antarctica in 1960's by Gotengo, Godzilla was trapped in a facility known as Area G until year 20XX, where upon the invasion of Xiliens using several mind-controlled Earth monsters, humanity was forced to release Godzilla from his icy prison. Killing Gigan, Zilla, Kumonga, Kamacuras, Anguirus, Rodan, King Caesar, Hedorah and Ebirah on his way to Tokyo, Godzilla shot down an asteroid with a powerful atomic ray, unleashing Monster X and reducing a city to a rubble.

When both monsters found themselves unable to defeat one another, Xilien Mothership self-destructed while Monster X evolved into his more powerful form, the three-headed dragon Kaiser Ghidorah. With his newfound power and ability to drain foes from life-energy, Kaiser Ghidorah easily dispatched and nearly killed Godzilla, until he received a power boost from mutant Shinichi Ozaki. Releasing himself from the grip, Godzilla decapitated the three-headed dragon and killed him by launching him into space with a powerful spiral ray. After Minilla's convinction to sprare humanity, Godzilla let go of his grudge and retreated to ocean.

Personality[]

Like many other incarnations of Godzilla, the Final Wars incarnation can be best described as anti-heroic. In the movie, he seems to be aggressive towards any creature or person that he sees as a threat to him, as he immediately attacks the Xillien’s monsters without a second thought even when he just emerges from his icy prison.

However, this Godzilla has a malicious side to him, as after he defeats Keizer Ghidorah, he immediately attacks and crashes the Gotengo despite the fact that they energized and helped him when he was on the brink of death, basically saving his life (though he may have not been aware of this fact). The reason why he did this is because of his grudge against the ship for burying him on ice several years prior.

However, he eventually stops himself thanks to Minilla convincing him not to attack. While he doesn’t have much interaction with his son, it clearly seems like he cares for him, as he listens to Minilla’s pleas to let go of his hatred towards humanity.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Supernatural strength: Godzilla displays advanced level of physical strength, standing unopposed as Earth's most powerful monster. His powerful arms allow him to lift and throw monsters much larger than himself at high distances, the best example of which being 100,000-ton Kaiser Ghidorah, who was thrown to the stratosphere when Godzilla was supercharged with Ozaki's energy. He was also able to send 30,000-ton Kumonga flying beyond the horizon and impale 20,000-ton Kamacuras on a power pylon, as well as easily throw around 50,000-ton King Caesar. Godzilla's immense strength extends to his legs and tail, allowing him to deflect both Zilla and 60,000-ton Anguirus in his ball form with a tail swipe.
  • Supernatural durability: Godzilla is naturally immune to conventional weapons and immense water pressures, making him nearly impossible to damage. The greatest testament of Godzilla's durability is surviving Gorath's impact, which obliterated entire Tokyo to a rubble, unscratched and unfazed. Likewise, Godzilla can also resist most energy beams and lasers, even surviving Monster X's Destroyed Thunder beams with no visible damage. However, piercing attacks such as swipes from Gigan's buzzsaws can in fact cause bleeding to Godzilla.
  • Supernatural leaping: Unlike most of his predecessors and successors, this Godzilla has ability to leap to a height of several hundreds of feet in a single bound. This is most prevalent during his fight with Rodan, Anguirus and King Caesar at Mount Fuji, where he jumps on Anguirus' head to the air to make King Caesar and Rodan crash into each other.
  • Atomic breath: This incarnation of Godzilla possesses the iconic atomic breath like his past incarnations. His atomic breath has been shown to pack immense amounts of power, able to one-shot weaker opponents such as Zilla, Hedorah and Ebirah, destroy Gigan’s head in one blast, match a meteor that obliterated Tokyo and match Monster X’s own Destroyed Thunder blasts.
    • Spiral ray: After being booster with Keizer energy from Ozaki, Godzilla used a Spiral Heat Ray to obliterate Keizer Ghidorah. This ray is seemingly even more powerful than his already strong normal atomic breath, able to push the 100, 000 ton Ghidorah into the sky within seconds.
  • Energy absorption: During the final battle with Keizer Ghidorah, Godzilla was able to absorb the Keizer energy that Ozaki transferred to him, gaining a significant power boost and releasing a shockwave of energy that freed him from Keizer Ghidorah’s grip.

Trivia[]

  • Like the Godzilla from Godzilla 2000: Millennium, this Godzilla is often mistakenly believed to be the adult Godzilla Junior from the end of Godzilla vs. Destoroyah, due to the monsters featured in Godzilla: Final Wars being scaled to 100 meters like the Heisei series and the stock footage of the adult Junior being shown in the film's opening credits. However, it's important to note that Final Wars is set in its own continuity that has no connection to the Heisei series and the Final Wars Godzilla is stated to have first appeared in 1954, while Godzilla Junior was not born until 1994.
  • The Final Wars Godzilla is easily one of the most, if not the most, powerful incarnations.
  • Godzilla was originally going to use his atomic breath to kill Rodan, Anguirus and King Caesar in their fight, but this was written out due to them being his allies. This hints that they are his friends in this version as well.
  • This Godzilla, like the one that appeared in Godzilla vs Megaguirus is intended to be the exact same Godzilla from the 1954 film of the same name with a different retcon regarding his fate at the end of the film, whereas every other Godzilla that appeared in the three original eras are intended to be a second Godzilla succeeding the original.
    • Despite this, it is important to note that this is just a reference to the 1954 film and the 1954 film and Godzilla: Final Wars do not share continuity.
