Sally Jackson is a major protagonist of the Camp Half-Blood Chronicles, being the overarching protagonist in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. She is the mother of Percy Jackson.
She tried to protect her son from the world of Greek Gods, but he eventually found himself part of the prophecy that was fated, and becomes one of his greatest supporters during the books. She is the arch-nemesis of her first husband, the dead Gabe Ugliano.
In the first film adaptation, she was portrayed by Catherine Keener. On Broadway and national tour, she was portrayed by Jalynn Steele, and Carrie Compere off-Broadway. In the upcoming tv series, she will be portrayed by Virginia Kull.
Background[]
She tries to protect Percy from the Greek world, but he can only avoid it for so long. She marries Gabe Ugliano for the sole reason that he is so odorous, he masks Percy's demigod scent. She was captured in the first book, but eventually let go by Hades, who only used her for leverage, but once that was gone he gave her back.
Since then she makes occasional appearances, aside from the second book series Heroes of Olympus where she is only mentioned briefly. Afterward, Sally married her boyfriend Paul Blofis, and had a daughter with him whom she named Estelle, after her own mother.
Personality[]
Apollo described Sally as "possessing just the right combination of compassion, strength, and beauty. He observed that she was one of those rare mortals who could connect spiritually with a god as an equal, being neither terrified of deities nor greedy for what they can offer, but to provide them with true companionship".
