Graveheart continues his inner turmoil

Graveheart is the main protagonist of the computer-animated TV show, Shadow Raiders.

Story[]

At the beginning of the series, Graveheart is a simple miner working for Lord Mantel. However, when discovering Tekla and being ambushed by Beast Drones on Planet Ice during routine exporting, Graveheart realizes he must step into the leader seat and bring the worlds together to stop a common enemy. He is a very noble, brave man, though he often suffers from lack of self-confidence, deeming himself as "just a miner and nothing more." When put into battle, he immediately takes charge and commands his orders gracefully. Those around him respect him to the fullest. Formerly a Quarrior (a portmanteau of warrior and quarry, he quit Planet Rock's military when he failed to save his younger brother, Mica, during a raid on Planet Fire. He often has his doubts about himself, but Jade is always there to reassure him of his abilities. Graveheart was exiled from Planet Rock when he formed the Alliance against the will of the isolationist Lord Mantel, leaving himself and Jade as the only two citizens of Rock in the group. Notably, he wears a black version of the standard Miner's armor. What this means is never revealed, but he calls the Miners "his men". He also called "sir" by the other miners, implying he is of a higher rank, most likely a miner foreman. He is voiced by Paul Dobson.

Personality[]

Graveheart cares deeply for the people under his charge, which ends up being every single person within the cluster at the end of the series. It's telling when in his first appearance, the Miners would not obey an order from the expedition's commanding officer until Graveheart (who is implied to be simply a foreman at best) gives the ok. He would also later try to abandon the expedition to save the few people still alive, despite knowing the consequences of such a retreat (however the coming of the Beast made his choice much easier). Jade implied that if Graveheart wanted the throne, even if he was an exile, the people of Rock would accept him.

As a natural-born leader and warrior, Graveheart has an extremely positive reputation amongst the Alliance, and an indomitable will to back it up.

As the head of the Alliance, Graveheart is burdened with leadership, especially when trying to work with his allies, which is aggravated by his self-doubt. Nonetheless, he acts for the continued survival of all four Planets, as he will for their inhabitants, though traditionally, he is slow to adopt to new customs. As amongst the Rock people, Graveheart holds steadfastly to the principles instilled to him regardless of any consequence.

Abilities[]

One of his most defining characteristics as commander of the Alliance is strategy. Graveheart knows his history of the Cluster well, putting this to good use when leading its various diverse peoples in unified and coordinated attacks against the Beast. But considering that he was a Quarrior, Graveheart is well-refined in using Planet Rock's weaponry, though he is more effective using the Sonic Cannon. He also has once used the controls of the Battle Moons to ward off a Beast invasion before it even started.
