I'm the Captain of the Axiom. We are going home today!
~ McCrea's most famous quote.
I don't want to survive! I want to live!
~ McCrea defying AUTO.
AUTO, you are relieved of duty!
~ McCrea defeats AUTO.

Captain B. McCrea, or simply The Captain, is one of the two tritagonists of Pixar's 9th full-length animated film WALL•E.

He is voiced by Jeff Garlin in English, and by Masao Kusakari in the Japanese dub.

Role in the film[]

Captain McCrea is the leader of the Axiom. Just like his fellow passengers, he is morbidly overweight, and was always on a hoverchair. The day to day management was handled by none other than AUTO along with the ship's computer. However, on the 700th anniversary, a probe ship returned with proof that life on Earth being feasible. At first, he didn't understand what it meant to return to Earth, much less the concept of planets. It was his curiosity that allowed him to see for himself once he learned about the operation manual for Operation Recolonize.

After he made the wrongful assumption that EVE was malfunctioning, he had GO-4 send her to the repair ward. Much to his shock, WALL-E followed EVE into the control room. Once he saw the soil in his hand, he analyzed it resulting in his curiosity peaked in regards to Earth. Eventually, EVE returned with the plant, leading him to take a look at her time spent on Earth, revealing it to be shown to be nothing more than a desolate wasteland, which wasn't like how he imagined it to be. Once he started watering the plant, he told AUTO that they need to return to Earth. AUTO repeatedly insisted that the plant was given to him and that they cannot return at any cost. AUTO showed him the video revealing Directive A-113 from former BNL CEO, Shelby Forthright that Operation Cleanup was a bust, showing that life was unsustainable on Earth. McCrea tried to persuade AUTO otherwise, as the message was nearly 7 centuries ago, and that the plant was solid evidence that Forthright was wrong. However, Auto is adamant that staying in space is survivable, but McCrea says that he doesn't want to survive, he wants to live. After he sees all the photos of all the former captains, McCrea discovers that AUTO was in every picture, which implied that he was the captain and not them. After realizing that his former predecessors were counting on him, McCrea adamantly states that they are going home. Unfortunately, AUTO resists by obeying Directive A-113, where he retaliates by having GO-4 steal the plant. WALL-E intervenes, but their plan failed when AUTO tased him, severely harming him in the process. Adding insult to injury, he eliminates McCrea's help by throwing WALL-E and EVE down the garbage chute, in addition to confining him to his room, much to his anger.

He helps WALL-E and EVE get the plant to the holo-detector energy machine, located at the lido deck so they can return to Earth. He initially doesn't do much for the ship beyond giving morning announcements, but when EVE comes back "positive" with a plant that WALL-E found there, he suddenly becomes very interested in humanity's former home, and after learning a lot about it from the ship's computer, his main goal becomes to get the human race back to Earth to rebuild it. To accomplish this, the first thing he needs to do is to take back the ship from AUTO, his auto-piloted steering wheel that is supposed to assist him in operating and maintaining the ship. However, Captain McCrea discovers that AUTO was essentially controlling the ship for 7 centuries. He was the one that ended up defeating him and another rogue robot, GO-4. Captain McCrea says to AUTO, "AUTO, you are relieved of duty." as he shuts him off and takes back the ship. He was very happy to be back on Earth. He, WALL-E, EVE, the rest of the good robots, and the human race begin to rebuild Earth.

He was last seen teaching the kids how to farm, saying that it was good to be home while the humans walk off the Axiom and take their first steps on the planet.

Quotes[]

What?! It’s completely relevant! Out there is our home. Home, AUTO. And it’s in trouble. I can’t just sit here and do nothing. That’s all I’ve ever done. That’s all anyone on this blasted ship has ever done. Nothing!
~ Captain McCree telling AUTO humanity needs to return to Earth, having done nothing for hundreds of years.
