Unlike some other Robin Hoods, I can speak with an English accent.
~ Robin Hood

Robin Hood is the protagonist of Mel Brooks' Robin Hood: Men in Tights. He is a parody of the original Robin Hood and is more comedic than heroic.

His singing voice was provided by the late Arthur Rubin.

Biography[]

Robin of Loxley starts out as a prisoner in Afghanistan at “Le Dungeon”, where he befriends a African peasant named Ahsneeze who is imprisoned for jaywalking. Together the two form a plan to escape from the dungeon along with the other prisoners, which succeeds. After that, Ahsneeze tells Robin about his son, Ahchoo who is a student in England. He tells Robin to take care of him, and after swimming all the way from Afghanistan to England (literally) he finds Ahchoo being attacked by Prince John’s goons. After helping Ahchoo, they head over to Loxley Hall, which is literally being taken away. Apparently, while Robin was gone, King Richard’s greedy and evil brother has taken over the kingdom while Richard is fighting in the crusades. Because the Loxleys had failed to pay the taxes, Prince John’s Royal Accountant, HMR Blockhead has taken away Loxley Hall. Also, all of Robin’s family has died off in comical ways, except his family’s faithful blind servant, Blinkin, who hasn’t noticed that the castle has been taken away.

Trivia[]

  • This Robin Hood was played by Cary Elwes. Elwes also played Westley in The Princess Bride and did the speaking voice of Garrett in Quest for Camelot.
  • Elwes was offered the role of Robin Hood in the 1991 film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, a role he rejected as he felt the plot was too contrived.
