Dinobot is a fictional character from the Beast Wars Transformers universe. He was one of the Predacons who worked for Megatron and was also one of the original six Predacons who stole the golden disk. His beast form is a raptor.
History
Beast Wars
Dinobot originally debuts in the series' premiere as a subordinate of Megatron, leader of the villainous Predacons. When arriving on prehistoric Earth, he took on the form of a Velociraptor. However, Dinobot was disappointed with Megatron not destroying the Maximals when they had the chance, and that they did not appear to be on Earth, so he challenged Megatron's leadership. However, Scorponok sent him flying into the distance with a missile, effectively expelling Dinobot from the Predacons.
Dinobot then challenged Optimus Primal to a battle for leadership of the Maximals, changing his activation code to "Dinobot Maximize". Their fight was interrupted by attacks from the Predacons, during which Optimus saved Dinobot from falling to his death. The Predacons' attacks revealed a mountain full of Energon where the Maximals (including Dinobot) and the Predacons fought in beast form. When Megatron transformed (endangering his life, as those unstable Energon crystals could destroy them as robots in less than a minute) and shot a missile at Optimus, who was injured in the battle, Dinobot deflected the missile away from him.
He eventually joins the ranks of Optimus Primal and the Maximals. Although he greatly enjoyed combat, he was driven by his code of honor (honor defined by the Predacons' perspective, not the Maximals'), inspired by the samurai bushido code, and would often make quotes from the works of William Shakespeare. Additionally, his Predacon perspectives would sometimes come into conflicts with the Maximals. He fights alongside with the Maximals before ultimately sacrificing himself to save a group of primates from a Predacon onslaught.
In the following season, Megatron clones Dinobot with transmetal technology, and recruits it to join the Predacons. It is christened as Dinobot II. Dinobot II, the second clone, and a Transmetal, was on the Predacons' side for most of Season 3 until the death of Rampage, and was killed helping the Maximals escape after regaining his original personality.
Trivia
- Dinobot II was not the first Dinobot clone, as in Season 1, in the episode "Double Dinobot", Megatron made a clone of Dinobot that could not transform. In the end, this clone was eaten by Dinobot.
- Outside of the television series, Dinobot's likeness was used to create several toys.
