Hero Overview

We're not machines, Sektor. I chose to serve the Lin Kuei, but I will not surrender my free will!
~ Cyrax to Sektor before their fight.

Cyrax is a Lin Kuei warrior who was forcibly converted into a cyborg from the Mortal Kombat video game fighting series. While initially programmed to serve the Cyber Lin Kuei, Cyrax is eventually being freed from the Lin Kuei's programming, and becomes an ally of the Forces of Light.

He was voiced by Rhasaan Orange In Mortal Kombat (2011), and Ike Amadi in MK 11, who also voiced Martian Manhunter in Superman: Legends of Tomorrow.

History[]

Mortal Kombat 3[]

Cyrax was a member of the Lin Kuei, who was forcibly converted into a cyborg, and was ordered to hunt down the renegade Sub-Zero. After he defeated Cyrax, Sub-Zero reprogrammed him to destroy Shao Kahn during his invasion of Earthrealm.

Mortal Kombat 4/Gold[]

Cyrax was found and repaired by the Cyber Lin Kuei, however, during Shinnok's invasion, Cyrax's human memories began surfacing, and after the fallen Elder God was defeated, Cyrax came to the Special Forces for aid. Sonya Blade and Jax Briggs brought him to the Outerworld Investigation Agency headquarters and used its technology to restore his humanity. Grateful for their help, Cyrax joined the Agency.

Deadly Alliance[]

Armageddon[]

Cyrax was a member of the Forces of Light during the Battle of Armageddon, and was seen facing Sheeva on the Pyramid of Argus, before being thrown off it. In his ending, Cyrax defeats Blaze, and after aborbing his elemental power, becomes fully human. He and Sub-Zero face Smoke and Sektor, reprogramming them to serve the Lin Kuei until their humanity could be restored.

In the main version of events, Cyrax was killed on the steps of the Pyramid.

Mortal Kombat (2011)[]

to be added

In his non canon ending, Cyrax managed to retain his free will, and was marked as a traitor by Sektor. After being surrounded, Cyrax was shocked to be saved by Raiden and 100 Shaolin Monks, who managed to destroy the Cyber Lin Kuei after him, although Sektor managed to escape. Cyrax was offered sanctuary at the Wu Shi Academy, and began a life as an honourable warrior for peace.

Mortal Kombat X comics[]

Mortal Kombat 11[]

Cyrax is brought into the presnt due to Kronika's timequake, and the Cyber Lin Kuei ally with her, with Sub-Zero hoping that if he can restore Cryax, then he could aid them in stopping the Cyber Lin Kuei. Cyrax battles Sub-Zero and Scorpion until the former is able to destroy his behaviour inhibitors. After reawakening, Cyrax is horrified to find himself converted, and was surprised to see an older Sub-Zero and Scorpion working together. Cyrax agrees to aid them in destroying the communication network and shut down the army, before they are attacked by Sektor's missiles, which Cyrax shields them from with an energy net. After Sektor is defeated, Cyrax manages to access the communication network, and reformats the system drives to shut it down. Asfter Sub-Zero promises to find a way to restore him, Cyrax pleads to not be revived as a cyborg, and Sub-Zero assures him that he would always be a worthy Lin Kuei, he bids farewell before shutting down the communication network and himself down.

Appearance[]

Cyrax debuted as a palette swap of the cyborg ninja character with a yellow sheen, sporting bright armor and a helmet that slightly protrudes forward to produce a crude beak and wires from the back of his head.

In Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance, Cyrax gains a redesign, courtesy of the Special Forces, now featuring new, shining armor, as well as a heartbeat regulator on his chest. In the latest Mortal Kombat, Cyrax is given an entire overhaul featuring more armor plating and visible scratches thanks to graphical improvements as well as green eyes.

His chest cavity also opens up to reveal an energy core. His helmet is also almost changed completely, still possessing the crude beak-like appearance.

Underneath, the robotic shell reveals Cyrax to have dark skin. He bleeds oil, represented by a dark bluish-black/black color.

Powers and Abilities[]

Cyrax is a highly skilled fighter thanks to his Lin Kuei training and his cybernetic body offers him a large arsenal of weapons, that are contained in his chest. His most common one is his seemingly limitless supply of bombs and he also had a green energy net that could incapacitate his foes.

After regaining his soul, Cyrax retained much of his cybernetics and received new technology from the Outerworld Investigation Agency. His net was replaced with a large buzzsaw appendage and his arm was outfitted with a device capable of creating portals between realms. Cyrax’s armor also possesses a great resistance to heat since he was able to walk through lava with no detrimental effects.

For his alternate weapon fighting style, he wields a Pulse Blade, an energy sword weapon.
