Biography[]

Early Life[]

Not much is known about Chris' past, but when hypnotized by Missy Armitage, he reveals that when he was eleven years old, his mother was killed in a hit an run. He feels partially responsible for her death since he didn't call 911, instead sitting down and watching television. Chris still felt guilty for the incident even into his adulthood, but would manage to have a good life by befriending TSA agent Rod Williams, and becoming a photographer. He would also start smoking at an unknown point in time, possibly to deal with his trauma. Five months before the events of the film, he entered a romantic relationship with Rose Armitage.

Events of Get Out[]

Chris reluctantly agrees to travel to Rose to meet her family, as he is hesitant to meet them since she hadn't told them of his race. Upon arriving to their home, Chris meets Rose's parents Dean and Missy, her brother Jeremy, and their groundskeeper and maid Walter and Georgia. During the greeting, Chris declines to receive hypnosis from Missy, since Dean offered to have her do so to end his smoking habit. That night after dinner, Chris goes out for a smoke and witnesses Walter and Georgia's bizarre behavior, and decides to back in where encounters Missy. Sitting down with her, Chris reveals what happened to his mother and is hypnotized by the matriarch, who sends him into the sunken place. The following morning, Chris initially thinks that last nights events were just a nightmare, but realizes that Missy did hypnotize him when he doesn't have the desire to smoke.

Guest appear at the Armitage residence for the annual get together, where Chris is subjected to racial stereotypes by the guests. Despite feeling isolated, he finds some solace in a blind art dealer named Jim Hudson, and is relieved to see another African-American named Logan King, but notices that he dresses in old attire and is married to an older woman. After speaking with Rod, Chris returns to the get together and takes a picture of Logan, who proceeds to yell at him to "get out" before being taken away. Finding the situation too strange, Chris tells Rose that he wants to leave, who agrees after some convincing. However, while packing his things, Chris notices a small closet where he finds pictures of Rose with black men, including Walter and Georgia.

Trying to leave, Rose reveals herself to be an accomplice with her family, and Chris is hypnotized again by Missy when he attempts to escape. Awaking in the basement, Chris sees a video presentation from the Armitage's true patriarch Roman, who successfully found a way to obtain pseudo-immortality by transporting brains into another person's body. He then realizes that the guest were there to obtain Chris through an auction, and that the guest's racial stereotypes were actually questions to see if he was a perfect candidate to swipe brains with. The presentation then ends and shows Hudson, who explains to Chris that he simply wants Chris' body because of his sight once he learned of Washington's photography skills.

Chris then decides to escape for good and places cotton stuffing into his ears, thus allowing him avoid being hypnotized again. When Jeremy enters to help his father perform the surgery, Chris knocks him unconscious and proceeds to kill Dean and Missy, which results in Dean knocking over a candle and setting the house ablaze. Before leaving the house, he is attacked by Jeremy, but manages to subdue him and stomp his head him multiple times. While driving away from the property, he accidently hits Georgia, and decides to take her with him possibly out of guilt from not helping his mother when he was young. However, Georgia (who is actually Marianne) attacks him, causing him to crash, which kills Marianne. He is then attacked by Rose and Walter/Roman, but manages to use his camera's flash to return Walter to his real self, allowing him to shoot Rose and kill himself.

While strangling Rose to prevent her from obtaining her rifle, Chris sees what appears to be a police to arrive, which makes Rose start to cry for help. However, it's revealed to Rod, who decided to travel there after the police refuse to believe him. The two then leave the area as Rose is left on the road, leaving her to die from her gunshot wound.

Personality[]

Chris is certainly a pleasant guy. He's easygoing, he's kind, he's a friendly, laid-back, and all-around likable guy to be with. To top it all off, he is considerably tolerant and civil in the racially-charged environment he's thrown into, choosing not to engage in conflict when he doesn't have to. He does have his limits, though, as the Armitages learn the hard way when he's escaping the estate.

Chris's photography gives some insight into his personality and interests, and is considered to be quite profound by the gallery owner he speaks to at the party.

Trivia[]
