Stop hand

This is a war zone, and I progress with strategy. I have to be at least five moves ahead of my enemies, with five contingency plans, and five backup plans for those contingencies at all times.
~ Batman to Superman.
You have all been called here. Into a labyrinth of sounds and smells, misdirection and misfortune. A labyrinth with no exit, a maze with no prize. You don't even realize that you are trapped.
~ Henry Emily revealing his true plan.

Masterminds are extremely intelligent heroes and are characterized by a clever personality, in which they will plan many things to amazing lengths and will always have a backup plan put into mind. A Heroic Mastermind is rarely caught off-guard and will often have other plans to fall back on their original plans being hampered.

Not to be confused with their infamously evil counterparts.

Note: If under this, do not add Genius as this category is a step above such and it is redundant. However, they can be Wise if they're able to put their knowledge into practice, using their curiosity to learn a lot about what is happening around them, and strive to improve their critical/analytical thinking skills even more than before.

They are the polar opposite of Dimwits as these heroes are among the smartest and most resourceful characters, while a dimwit cannot (or seldom) make many smart decisions. Both categories are completely different and it is, therefore, impossible for a character to be in both categories. Even if these masterminds had their moments of being flawed, silly, clumsy or fallible in behavior or decisions in their lives before, that does not mean they're automatically ditzy geniuses if these heroes happen to be genuinely self-aware, knowledgeable and generally intelligent where a Dimwit is usually way too unwise, clueless, deluded, forgetful, simplistic and oblivious to realize how they really are in general.

It is possible for them to be incompetent if they are funny characters whose failures are played for laughs (i.e. Sheldon J. Plankton).

It's also possible for a mastermind to be considered Misguided or come across as such if their behaviors seem to be arrogant and obsessed. In these sorts of situations, the story will have them eventually learn from their mistakes, the errors of their ways and remain completely rational with their own sagacious levels of common sense with a form of wisdom in contrast to a typical Egomaniac, a Hothead, or even a typical Genius.
