Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb!
~ Batman's most famous line

Batman was the protector of Gotham City, and the titular main protagonist of the 1966 Adam West TV show Batman.

He was portrayed by the late Adam West who also voiced himself on Family Guy.

Biography[]

This version is based on the comic book character of the same name. In the first episode, it is twice briefly mentioned that his parents were killed by criminals when he was a boy; this is mentioned once more in the episode "The Joker's Epitaph". He is presented as a well established superhero and legally deputized member of law enforcement.

In the movies, he is shown to be very coperative with Robin.

Personality[]

Unlike most modern incarnations, this Batman is an upstanding, beloved public figure, working side-by-side with law enforcement, with an unbreakable moral code, and a strict adherence to the law, no matter how insignificant.

Nearly every episode features Bruce giving some sort of lecture — usually to Dick, his legal ward — on the merits of an orderly society, and though he deplores criminality itself, he tries to hold out hope that the villains he fights will reform their ways. He also holds Robin and himself to complete, total adherence to the letter of the law, which is shown to not always be the most pragmatic thing to do (such as feeding the meter before entering a crime scene or refusing to contest a vehicular infraction, even if in both cases it would mean Catwoman got away). He is extremely moral with people breaking the law and although he was ready and willing to send criminals such as Joker, Penguin and Riddler to prison, he showed a sense of compassion for Catwoman who had a crush on him.

Equipment[]

Although Batman was a master of countless fighting styles, displayed an unfathomable understanding of advanced calculus, and was endowed with insightful wit and masterful cunning, from time to time the Caped Crusader had to rely on his self-made tools of the trade to see the day through.

  • Computer Hacker: He knows how to work his way around a computer.
  • Driving: When you have very advanced vehicles, you need advanced driving skills.
  • Electrical Engineering: He knows how to make gadgets and vehicles.
  • Advanced Combat: He is a very good fighter.

Trivia[]

  • Unlike the new series of Batman, Bruce and Dick never figure out Barbara Gordon is Batgirl in this series. Mostly she is more of an ally than a teammate.
  • The Bat-Signal was rarely used in the series, mostly because Batman is contacted during the day via the Bat-Phone.
  • Mostly in the series, they didn't explain how Dick Grayson became Robin and how he met Bruce Wayne and Alfred Pennyworth in the series. Just like Bruce Wayne, his parents were killed by a killer too, but it was never came up or explained.
  • Before Adam and Burt won the roles of Batman and Robin, Lyle Waggoner originally auditioned for the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne.
  • Batman's costume in the 1965 screen-tests bears a striking resemblance to Batman's costume from the Golden Age comics.
  • This version of Batman has brown hair, while his mainstream counterpart has black hair.
  • Mostly Bruce Wayne’s family company Wayne Enterprise is never mentioned or how he became wealthy. But just like in the series comic book series Bruce Wayne is born wealthy.
  • Unlike in the Batman series where this Batman was deputized, in the Batman series, he was never deputized but works with the police, Da, the mayor and the feds to call him for help and why they have the bat-signal. Other superheroes were never deputized but law enforcement or heads of states call them for help and become their allies.
