Anne Shirley is the beautiful main protagonist introduced in the novel Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery. Anne was born an orphan in Nova Scotia, Canada. Her parents had died of typhoid fever. In her early childhood, she had lived a miserable life in an orphanage but would soon be adopted by middle-aged siblings on Prince Edward Island. She was adopted by Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert in the town of Avonlea.
