Abdullah ben Kalish Ezab is a major character in the The Adventures of Tintin comic book series. He is the 9 year old son of the Emir Mohammed ben Kalish Ezab and a bratty prankster who loves playing tricks on other people, much to Haddock's annoyance.
Appearance[]
He is a young child wearing an orange sheikh hat on his head, with a little part of his hair visible. He also wears a long black and yellow coat with a white and yellow tunic under it as well as orange shoes.
Personality[]
Abdullah is a spoiled and mischievous child who loves doing pranks to many characters in the series, like Captain Haddock, Tintin, the Thompsons, Calculus, Müller and Nestor. Even though his pranks can be very funny, it is considered as very annoying for them, mostly Captain Haddock, who he idolizes by calling him "Blistering Barnacles" after Haddock's recurring curse. Despite this, his father finds his antics charming, but he once annoyed him by replacing his cigars with explosive cigars.
However, despite his annoying pranks, he does have some heroism within him, as he is the one who defeats Müller by replacing his pistol with an ink pistol as he was about to commit suicide.
Biography[]
Land of Black Gold[]
He is first seen when Müller imprisoned him inside a dungeon, where Tintin helps him escape, despite him refusing to leave his cell and annoying Tintin on his way out, but Müller manages to capture the child again and drives away with him as Tintin and Haddock chase him throughout the desert. However, Abdullah puts some sort of powder on Müller's neck, which makes him lose control of the car and crash down into a hill. As Müller holds Tintin and Haddock at gun point and tells them to back away from the Emir's car, Abdullah gives him a second pistol so he can successfully back them off. Müller then tosses the young prince inside the car, hitting his head on the opposite door and causing him to cry. As Müller drives away, however, he is stopped by Tintin, who shoots one of the wheels to stop his car. While Tintin was shooting the car wheels, Abdullah jumped out of the car through one of it's doors and then took cover with Haddock as Tintin and Müller exchange gun fire to each other. In the meantime, the young prince annoys Haddock as he was about to play with Snowy, causing him to grab his arm to restrain him, only for Abdullah to toss sand at the captain's eyes, blinding him. Haddock then slaps Abdullah's back to teach him a lesson, causing him to start crying again. As Müller is about to be cornered by the police, he attempts to commit suicide with the pistol Abdullah gave him, only for it to spill ink all over his face, revealing that the young prince gave him an ink pistol, resulting in his arrest and defeat. He is last seen pranking Captain Haddock with an explosive cigar, annoying him. He then paints "THE END" on a wall in the last panel.
The Red Sea Sharks[]
Abdullah makes his second appearance in this story. He is first seen in Marlinspike Hall where he pranks Haddock and Tintin using a tiger, a bucket filled with water falling down from the entrance door when open and then a clock which splashes the captain's face with water. This causes Haddock to get angry and grab his arm only for one of the Emir's guards to tell Haddock to not touch the young prince. It is then revealed that his father wrote a message to them revealing that he has been toppled over by his rival and had to send Abdullah and his henchmen to Europe so he can be safe from the regime. He almost got Tintin caught when he put an alarm clock into his coat. He then pranks the Thompsons by putting rolled up newspapers inside their hats to make them too small for them to wear. As Haddock initially refused to go with Tintin to Khemed to save the Emir, Abdullah's pranks convinced him to go with Tintin so he can't be annoyed by the bratty young prince.
While the Emir was talking to Tintin and Haddock about the truth on how the whole coup d'état happened and revealed that Rastapopoulos, the owner of Arabair and many other enemies of Tintin have helped his rival to successfully overthrow him, Abdullah ties Nestor on a chair and tells him that crocodiles will devour him. Calculus, who was testing out his new invention, notices Nestor binded to the chair and tells him that if he was pushed, he would spin around. Abdullah then pushes him, causing the professor to spin around uncontrollably, which results in him accidentally making a mess in the room.
After Bab El Ehr was overthrown by Ben Kalish Ezab and therefore regained power, Abdullah and his henchmen left the mansion, while also writing a letter to Haddock about the moments he passed his days in and how he will miss him, while using his idolized name in it. However, Abdullah caused Nestor to look slightly skinner, due to him being tied up until Tintin and Haddock returned.

- His design is inspired by Abdulaziz bin Abdul Rahman Al Saud. He was originally going to be inspired by the youngest King of Irak, Faisal II of Irak.
- He and the Emir are two of Hergé's personal favorite characters, as he confirmed in many interviews, which is why Abdullah often appears in the series.
